Placement of experts and APOs to the FAO

On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the BLE carries out tasks specific tasks regarding the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). This includes support to applicants for FAO vacant positions and the programme for associate experts (known as Associate Professional Officer - APO) at the FAO.

APO programme at the FAO

In addition to the regular vacancies at FAO (Profes-sional Vacancies), young professionals may take part in the Programme for Associate Professionals or work as an intern at FAO. Associate experts are internationally known as Associate Professional Officers (APO), Junior Professional Officers (JPO) or Associate Experts (AE).

It is the aim of the Federal Republic of Germany to provide an adequate number of representatives in international organisations. With this objective, and on behalf of the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) carries out the APO Program.

The program contributes towards multilateral development cooperation and provides the opportunity to gain international work experience under current conditions at international organisations
For the FAO, tasks like organisation, communication and accompanying support to the programme are accomplished by BLE in collaboration with the office for Associate Professionals at International Organisations (BFIO / ZAV) of the Federal Employment Agency.
