Continuing education for skilled workers (capacity development)

The BMEL supports continued education and training measures for skilled workers in rural regions. Both inbound and outbound measures for the International Apprenticeship Programme are currently being implemented, while the "International Leadership Workshop for Rural Youth" takes place every two years.

Apprenticeship programme

The apprenticeship programme makes an important contribution to education and training for young skilled workers and people in leadership positions. Practical work and teaching deepen the apprentices’ knowledge and broaden their skills. In agricultural companies they gain insight into German and foreign agricultural structures. The experience gained during the apprenticeship provides a basis for them to take on leadership roles in agriculture in their own countries and to help shape the form and development of rural regions.

International Leadership Workshop for Rural Youth

The BMEL has been organising the International Leadership Workshop for Rural Youth since 1962. It is aimed and current and prospective leaders from all over the world in positions of responsibility in youth work or vocational education and training in rural regions.
The international participants gain information and discover methods that allow them to develop their individual strengths and put them to better use. In turn, they as disseminators help young people in rural regions in their home countries to improve living conditions. In this way, they collectively assume responsibility for sustainable development, even beyond their own regions.
