Management of BMLEH's Bilateral Trust Fund at the FAO
The tasks of BLE comprise the management of the Bilateral Trust Fund (BTF) in all three phases (planning, implementation phase and impact analysis) on the basis of the framework agreement between the Federal Government and the FAO on cooperation in the field of food security. Within this frame, the BLE is working together closely with the BMLEH, FAO and GIZ (the Agency for German International Cooperation).
The BLE initiates new international projects, supervises on-going projects, processes and disseminates information, participates in national and international discussions for alignment of the BTF. The BLE also contributes to strategic concepts of the BTF.
At present, BTF projects focus on themes:
- strengthen the political framework for the concrete realization of the right to food and for access to land and natural resources, particularly water;
- implement strategies for sustainable food security and general nutrition education in rural and urban areas, with a particular focus on the important role of women and youth;
- promote sustainable agricultural production, climate change adaptation strategies for the agricultural sector, and the development of bioenergy and a bioeconomy that are closely linked to food security issues;
- develop solutions to reduce food loss and food waste.
