Management of BMEL's Bilateral Trust Fund at the FAO

The tasks of BLE comprise the management of the Bilateral Trust Fund (BTF) in all three phases (planning, implementation phase and impact analysis) on the basis of the framework agreement between the Federal Government and the FAO on cooperation in the field of food security. Within this frame, the BLE is working together closely with the BMEL, FAO and GIZ (the Agency for German International Cooperation).

The BLE initiates new international projects, supervises on-going projects, processes and disseminates information, participates in national and international discussions for alignment of the BTF. The BLE also contributes to strategic concepts of the BTF.

At present, BTF projects focus on five themes:

  • Right to Food
  • Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests
  • Strategy for Sustainable Nutrition and Rural Development
  • New challenges: Bioenergy and Food Security
  • Fighting Malnutrition and Nutrient Deficiencies

The regional focus is Africa and Afghanistan with some international and global projects.
